World Wildlife Day

In September 2016, the 17^th Conference of the Parties to CITES in Johannesburg adopted the Convention’s first resolution on youth engagement, calling on the parties to engage and involve young people in wildlife conservation issues.

To mark World Wildlife Day, Valérie Davenet, Director of the Department of the Environment, highlights how important it is for everyone to get involved: “In addition to young people, who represent our future and who are already extremely aware of the challenges of wildlife conservation, we need to draw the attention of everyone to the consequences of our choices in terms of consumption and leisure activities. For our choices have an impact on the preservation of fauna and flora at both the local and international levels.”

It is also worth noting that the Department of the Environment has recently published a leaflet presenting CITES, which explains its role in and commitment to protecting biodiversity. The leaflet is available on the Prince’s Government website: http://en.gouv.mc/Publications .
