"Following the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in 1973 and 2001, it is a joy and a great honour for the Principality to host the European Athletes' Commission," recalled H. E. Yvette Lambin-Berti, Secretary of the Monegasque Olympic Committee, at the opening of the event.  "The contribution you will make to the main issues that will be addressed over the coming days is testimony to the importance of your role. "

On this first day, Jean-Michel Saive, President of the European Athletes' Commission, Tony Estanguet, Vice-President of the Athletes' Commission of the International Olympic Committee (and President of the Organising Committee of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris), Janez Kocijancic, Acting President of the European Olympic Committees, and former Presidents of the Commission, including Sergey Bubka, (former President from 2001-2002), took to the podium in turn to address the delegates.

In addition to the numerous discussions between and speeches by renowned athletes during this three-day event, the election of the members of the bureau and the President of the European Athletes' Commission for the 2017-2021 term of office will also take place.
