5th Monegasque Meeting on Disability "Mobility and Leisure – Let's Live Together"

As every year for the past five years, to mark the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, via the intermediary of the Disability and Social Inclusion Office of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services, held the 5th Monegasque Meeting on Disability on Monday 5 December in the Auditorium of Monaco's Vocational and Catering School (Lycée Technique et Hôtelier de Monaco).

In this way, the Prince's Government wished the Principality to be associated, for the 5th time, with commemorating this day, which was initiated by the UN.  The theme chosen this year was "Mobility and Leisure – Let's Live Together."

Government Minister Stéphane Valeri had the opportunity to recall the advances that have already been made in terms of social and professional integration, autonomy, quality of life and the freedom to travel around.  He also gave an update of the main provisions on the law on accessibility to the built environment, approved on Thursday 1 December by the National Council, which is both ambitious for people with disabilities and respectful of Monaco's special characteristics, particularly topographical characteristics, thus preserving the country's economic development and the development of real estate.

Representatives of the Department of Urban Amenities, Monaco Bus Company, the Mobibus, Monaco City Hall and the management of the Louis II Stadium then spoke on the measures put in place by the Principality, including modifications to roads, the various means of transport and access to leisure for all, with a particular focus on adaptations to public swimming pools and the Larvotto Beach (Handiplage/Audioplage).  The day closed with a public debate, in particular with directors of the Associations involved and people with disabilities, who had an opportunity to have their questions answered and make suggestions to the decision-makers and professionals who were present.
