2nd South of France Meetings on Robotic Digestive Surgery in the Principality

Following the funding of the Da Vinci Robot, which was presented to the Princess Grace Hospital by generous donors in 2012, Dr. Maurice Chazal, Head of the Digestive Surgery Department and Dr. Hubert Perrin, Deputy Head of Department, wished to organise the second South of France Meetings on Robotic Digestive Surgery in Monaco.

This major scientific meeting, inaugurated by Mr. Stéphane Valeri, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, was an opportunity for several dozen digestive surgeons who specialise in robotic surgery to discuss the emergence of new practices in digestive surgery thanks to robots, thus making a new direction possible for this specialty.

Not only are robots used in urology and surgery for colorectal cancer, but also, more and more, for complex operations on the liver and the pancreas, where a laparoscopic technique is not ideal.  This is a real technological breakthrough for surgeons in their surgery practice.  It also improves patient well-being, as the surgery is less invasive and less traumatic.  At the CHPG, 30 to 40 robotic digestive surgical procedures are already carried out each year, and this number is growing constantly.

Thanks to these means, the Principality is at the forefront of technological progress and continues to offer excellent healthcare.
