On Thursday 12 April 2018, the General Assembly launched the United Nations Road Safety Trust Fund, the aim of which is to speed up progress in improving road safety at a worldwide level by filling gaps in the mobilisation of resources for effective action at all levels.

Speaking at this launch, Jean Todt, United Nations Special Envoy for Road Safety, stated, "I welcome the creation of the United Nations Road Safety Trust Fund, which will enable us to increase our efforts, backed by the progress made and experience gained during the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020."

The Principality of Monaco joined the 70 co-sponsors of the resolution submitted by the Russian Federation.  In her speech, H.E. Ms. Isabelle Picco recalled the main aspects of the Monegasque Government's policy on preventative road safety, aimed primarily at young people and raising awareness through education in order to prevent severe penalties for those who put other peoples' lives in danger by infringing the rules of the highway code.

While the EVER fair was taking place in the Principality (from 10-12 April 2018), the Ambassador also emphasised the Monegasque Authorities' commitment to sustainable mobility and the investments that had been made in infrastructure with regard to users' safety.

Member States will meet in Sweden in 2020 for the Third Global Road Safety Conference, at which they will review the global road safety plan for the Decade for Action (2011-2020).
