Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office

Role

  • Administrating the requests relating to vehicles registered in the Principality of Monaco
  • Organising tests and issuing driving licences
  • Maintaining relations with driving professionals and professionals involved in transporting people and goods by road
  • Running the Vehicle Testing Centre
  • Drafting and implementing regulations relating to the Highway Code

 

Organisation and operation

The Service is organised in 5 separate sections and a centre, involving 31 people, who report to the Head of Office.

Registration Section

It is responsible for:

  • Registering new and second-hand vehicles in order to issue:
    • Registration certificates
    • Number plates
  • Issuing and renewing driving licences
  • Dealing with requests for certificates and duplicates of administrative documents relating to registration in the event of loss, theft or change of address
  • Issuing documents relating to the sale of vehicles registered in the Principality
  • Issuing:
    • Scrap vehicles certificates
    • Permits for refrigerated transport, the transport of dangerous materials and transport of people 

Driving Licence and Road Safety Section

It is responsible for:

  • Organising and managing theory and practical driving tests
  • Dealing with requests for exchanging driving licences
  • Maintaining relations with the International Commission for driver testing 

Administration Section

It is responsible for:

  • Budgeting and accounting
  • Managing stock and maintaining premises
  • Organising and monitoring annual registration renewal activities
  • Providing a secretariat
  • Managing documents

 

Vehicle Testing Centre

It is responsible for:

  • Scheduling and carrying out tests on vehicles
  • Making registration plates

 

Transport and Studies Section

It is responsible for:

  • Entering registrations on the Principality's Road Transport Register
  • Issuing international permits for the road transport of goods and people
  • Issuing professional licences: professional record books, land-based medical transport cards, tachograph cards, driving instructor licences
  • Carrying out cross-disciplinary studies

 

Legal Section

It is responsible for:

  • Drafting proposed changes to regulations
