As part of the “Students on Ice” programme, the aim of which is to promote Education for Sustainable Development, on Wednesday 11 January 2017 the Prince Albert II Foundation and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport offered Year 12 General Studies pupils the opportunity to attend a film screening and lecture on regions of the world where the environment is under threat.

The discussion took place at Monaco’s Vocational and Catering School and was attended by H.S.H. Prince Albert II.

The two winners of the 2016 “Students on Ice” competition presented the report they prepared last August to raise awareness among their peers of the Arctic’s fragility.

The 2017 competition was also launched, with the theme “Humans and Wildlife”. This will send another two students off on their own journey to the polar region for a scientific mission focusing on environmental protection.

This year, scientists from UArctic, including the Chief Education Officer of the University of Oulu in Finland, came to give a presentation on general research priorities in the Arctic.
