Monaco Méditerranée Foundation lecture series “Major challenges facing today’s world”

"Les grands enjeux du monde contemporain - Quelles énergies pour le monde de demain ? "

On Thursday 19 January 2017, a new lecture in the series “Major challenges facing today’s world” was presented in the Auditorium at Monaco’s Vocational and Catering School.

The guest speaker, Ms Carole Mathieu, a specialist in energy issues, gave a presentation on: “What will be the energy sources for tomorrow’s world?” Prior to joining the Centre for Energy of the French Institute for International Relations (IFRI), Carole Mathieu was an analyst at the French Energy Regulatory Commission from 2010 to 2014. In this role, she helped to develop France’s positions in discussions with European institutions and with network operators, particularly of energy infrastructure.

The “Major challenges facing today’s world” lecture series is aimed at senior secondary school pupils in the Principality of Monaco and students at the Sciences Po Mediterranean campus in Menton and the International University of Monaco (IUM).

These lectures, to which H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, who is particularly concerned about the future that lies ahead for the younger generation, was keen to grant his high patronage, have been organised by the Monaco Méditerranée Foundation, chaired by Mr Enrico Braggiotti, in close collaboration with the Department of Education, Youth and Sport and in association with the IFRI.

The speakers, highly qualified experts and researchers, are drawn from various fields, including urban development, geopolitics, economics and the environment.

The growing number of students attending the lectures illustrates the genuine interest of the Principality’s pupils in building the world of tomorrow and mastering the critical challenges which they will face.

The next events will take place in March, with a lecture by Mr Marc Hecker on “The impact of the digital age on our evolving societies”, and in May, when Mr Jean-François Daguzan, Deputy Director of the Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique (Foundation for Strategic Research) and Editor-in-Chief of the review Géo-économie will give a talk on “Governance, global economy and the balance of power”.
