Naissance de deux faucons pèlerins dans les falaises du Rocher

A few weeks after the birth of six Mediterranean crested cormorants (Phalacrocorax aristoletis desmarestii), the Department of the Environment has identified and photographed two young peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus), which were born in a hollow in the cliffs of the Rock.  Once again, the reproduction of the peregrine falcon in the Principality is indicative of good ecological conditions, which are necessary for this protected, iconic species.

As a reminder, these observations were made within the framework of ornithological monitoring.  This monitoring was implemented by the Department of the Environment, with the assistance of the Conservatory of Natural Areas of Provence-Alps-Côte d'Azur, and an inventory was undertaken throughout the territory of Monaco in 2010/2011.

"We are delighted with these new births, because they confirm the good ecological status and special character of this site, which retains a strong natural aspect, even in the heart of the Principality," emphasised Valérie Davenet, Director of the Environment.  She added, "We must ensure that we preserve the tranquillity of these breeding areas for this species of heritage importance, which is protected at the European level".
