The Minister of State paid a visit to Larvotto this morning to meet business owners with whom he discussed a variety of issues, including the offshore extension project, monitoring of bathing waters and future renovation work in the area. The Minister was accompanied by Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance and Economy, and Rémy Rolland, Director of the State Property Authority.

The Minister of State was able to listen to and engage with each of the owners. He explained that the vessel responsible for filling the foundations on which the caissons for the offshore urban extension will sit, the Simon Stevin, had just one more pass to complete between 16 and 17 June, and that the bathing waters had remained compliant throughout phase 1. The Department of the Environment had conducted additional sampling in the bathing area during the winter season, carrying out one test every fortnight. It was found that the work had not had any impact on water quality. All results had been published and displayed in the bathing areas for public consultation on a regular basis.

Finally, the Minister of State confirmed that owners would continue to operate their businesses during the 2019 season, following which renovation work at the site could begin. He added that the finalised renovation plan would be presented in the autumn.
