As part of its mission to promote "Destination Monaco" abroad, Monaco Tourist and Convention Authority undertook a presentation tour in Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania from 5 to 10 September 2016, in association with its Australian representative office.

The Monegasque delegation, led by Guillaume Rose, Director of the Tourist and Convention Authority and his staff, included representatives from the Fairmont Hotel, the Hotel Métropole and the SBM.  In Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland, workshops and sales calls were alternated with local events for leading decision-makers (such as tour operators and agencies) and evening events for top clients.

The team presented the destination's many assets, highlighting some new innovations as well as long-standing attractions, such as Glamour and Lifestyle, which have a particular appeal for the Australians.  In fact, in 2012, the Princess Grace exhibition in the State of Victoria broke all attendance records.

In Melbourne, the high point of this tour, in addition to its usual partners from the hotel trade, Monaco Tourist and Convention Authority brought together H.E. Ms. Catherine Fautrier, Ambassador of Monaco to Australia, Andrew Cannon, Honorary Consul of Monaco in Melbourne, Hadrien Bourely, Honorary Consul of Monaco in Sydney, who has recently been appointed, as well as more than 200 well-known Australian figures from the world of tourism and the media.

This evening event devoted to Monaco, organised in association with Atout France, the French promotional body, was very successful.  Marcel Ravin, the chef from the Monte Carlo Bay, orchestrated the dinner with great talent.  The guests enjoyed a complete immersion in the Principality thanks to a 360° film, which was presented as a world first and designed for the 2017 Astana International Expo.

The tour ended in Hobart, Tasmania.  The delegation, along with Andrew Cannon, Honorary Consul of Monaco in Melbourne, attended a charity dinner for 600 people, organised by the Mawson’s Huts Foundation as part of the Australian Antarctic Festival.  This event drew attention to the need to conserve the South Pole, as advocated by Prince Albert I and H.S.H. Prince Albert II.

As a reminder, in 2010, Australia and New Zealand were ranked 11th with regard to tourists staying in Monaco.  The challenge for Alison Robert-Brown, Head of the Tourist Authority's Australian Office, is to promote these two countries to 9th place.
