Today, Agnès Buzyn, the French Minister of Solidarity and Health, and Serge Telle, Minister of State of the Principality of Monaco, signed an agreement to cooperate on healthcare safety issues, and a second agreement on the handling of blood products.

The framework healthcare safety cooperation agreement aims, among other things, to formalise existing Franco-Monegasque discussions on health watch, to make emergency healthcare facilities available, and to pool prevention and treatment resources. It will also enable Monaco to be integrated as part of the PACA region’s mechanism for dealing with health crises, so that the Principality can fully engage within the context of the World Health Organisation’s International Health Regulations.

The agreement to cooperate on the handling of blood products will mean that the Etablissement Français du Sang (France’s national blood authority) will be able to handle blood collected by the Princess Grace Hospital Blood Transfusion Centre in Monaco. This will allow the needs of the population in terms of blood products to be met in the most effective way possible, in compliance with a high level of transfusion safety and ethical rules governing collection.

These two agreements are the result of negotiations between the parties, reflecting their desire to work together to implement the International Health Regulations, to combat health crises, to prepare for flu pandemics, to eradicate infectious diseases and to control antimicrobial resistance.

The implementation of these two agreements will ensure the sustainability of valuable cross-border cooperation on healthcare safety issues.
