Monaco Takes Part in the 1st World Humanitarian Summit

@DR

Monaco has taken part in the first Summit for Heads of State and Governments on humanitarian issues, held on the initiative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Istanbul on 23 and 24 May.

The Monegasque delegation was headed by H.E. Mr. Serge Telle, Minister of State, and comprised of Ms. Bénédicte Schutz, Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Ms. Yordanos Pasquier, Head of Emergency Programmes at the Department of International Cooperation.

In his speech (attached) at the Leaders' Segment, H.E. the Minister of State highlighted the active role played by the Principality in addressing and preventing crises.  "For many years, Monaco, under the impetus of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, has chosen solidarity and responsibility," he recalled.

H.E. Mr. Serge Telle also stressed the importance of preventing conflicts, by "seeking political and economic solutions" and investing "in Humanity always and in all circumstances."  He concluded, "Acting for the environment while trying to prevent conflicts is therefore acting for peace and for humanity, and in particular for the weakest, most vulnerable populations."
