Joint press release issued by Tunisia and Monaco Monaco–Tunisia: A Mediterranean partnership to promote socio-economic development in Tunisia

On 6 July 2017, Mr Khemaies Jhinaoui, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tunisia, welcomed Mr Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, to Tunis for the third session of the Monaco–Tunisia Bilateral Commission. The cooperative relationship between Tunisia and the Principality of Monaco is a long-standing and special one. It was formalised in 2008 with the conclusion of a framework cooperation agreement.

On this occasion, the two parties welcomed the cooperative efforts already under way to support socio-economic development in Tunisia, through projects relating to the health and social sectors, entrepreneurship, and local economic development.

The two ministers exchanged views on the changing situation at the national and regional levels, as well as new areas of partnership, particularly those focused on social activities and young people.

To this end, Monaco agreed to review the projects submitted by Tunisia aimed at promoting the integration of women in rural areas, protecting disabled children, and supporting projects relating to young people and sport.

At the end of the session, the two ministers signed a new framework cooperation agreement, which is in line with the international 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as a sectoral agreement on care and integration for vulnerable people.

In the margins of this third Monaco–Tunisia Bilateral Commission, an economic forum co-organised by the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) and the Monaco Economic Board (MEB) was held on 7 July 2017 at UTICA’s headquarters.

Mr Gilles Tonelli also visited the flagship projects supported by the Principality of Monaco in Tunisia.
