The meeting follows the signature in 2012 of a framework cooperation agreement between the two states which provides for regular dialogue at the ministerial level. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the actions undertaken over the last three years and set out the future directions for Monegasque cooperation in Burkina Faso.

Mr Tonelli recalled the areas of intervention in the country, which match Burkina Faso’s priorities: education, support for vulnerable children, health, food security and civil protection in partnership with Monaco’s Fire and Emergency Service.

During his visit, the Minister also signed five cooperation agreements, under which help will be provided to street children, action will be taken to combat malnutrition by supporting small-scale farmers, the availability of preschool will be strengthened, support will be provided for vocational training in conjunction with the Burkinabe authorities, and research on ways to improve development policies in the Sahel will be expanded.

Since 2004, more than 60 development cooperation projects have been supported by the Prince’s Government, for a total amount of EUR 5.5 million.

 * Gilles Tonelli signed agreements with Samusocial International and Samusocial Burkina Faso, NGOs Planète Enfants et Développement and GRET, the Foundation for Studies and Research on International Development (FERDI), and the authorities in Burkina Faso.
