In 2016, the Humanitarian Action for Protection and Preservation of Intimate Hygiene (HAPPIH) project proposed by five students from the Sciences Po Paris Middle East and Mediterranean Campus was awarded second prize in the Challenge Solidaire. This competition, which is organised by the Prince’s Government’s Department of International Cooperation, offers prize-winners a grant to carry out a development aid initiative.

So, from 15 to 17 December, the students visited Marrakech and handed out washable sanitary towel kits to 150 girls. Their trip provided an opportunity to raise awareness among Moroccan girls about intimate hygiene issues, a subject which is often taboo, particularly within their families.

The initiative, whose main objective was to tackle a topic which continues to be sensitive in Morocco, fulfilled its promises: several articles about the #BeHappih project have already appeared in local media, including on the www.femmesdumaroc.com website. The students were also interviewed by a number of local radio stations.
