Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Korea and Monaco 10th Anniversary Celebrations

As part of the 10^th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the Principality of Monaco, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, in association with the Prince's Government, is organising a concert of traditional Korean music, to be given by the National Orchestra of Korea, on Thursday 4 May at 8 p.m. at the Rainier III Auditorium.

This concert is entitled "Arirang Fantasy" and offers variations on the theme of Arirang, a very popular Korean traditional song. A work on this theme, specifically composed for a Western symphony orchestra, was performed in 2008 by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Lorin Maazel. The version that will be presented in Monaco has been specially arranged for the instruments of the National Orchestra of Korea.

The National Orchestra of Korea is entirely comprised of traditional Korean instruments. It has operated as a permanent ensemble at the National Theatre since 1995. For more than twenty years, the Orchestra has devoted itself to creating specially written new works based on traditional Korean music.

The Principality of Monaco and the Republic of Korea established Diplomatic Relations on 14 June 2007, the date on which H.E. Mr. Il-hwan Cho, First Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Monaco, presented his Letters of Credence.

The current Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Monaco is H.E. Mr. Chul-min Mo, who presented his Letters of Credence to the Sovereign Prince on 27 October2015.

The Principality of Monaco has had consular representation in the Republic of Korea since 31 May 2012, the date of the appointment of Mr. Seok-Joh Hong as Honorary Consul of Monaco in Seoul.
