The Principality of Monaco, which has been a member State since 2015, took part in the work of the 43rd session of the Committee on World Food Security and the celebration of its 40th anniversary.  The 43rd session of the Committee was held in Rome from 17 to 21 October 2016, on the theme of "Making a Difference in Food Security and Nutrition."

As part of its development cooperation policy, the Prince's Government is actively involved in achieving Millennium Development Goal (MDG) No. 2, "End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture."  It has invested more than EUR 2.6 million for food security in its priority countries for intervention, in partnership with the FAO and the World Food Programme (WFP), with the two-fold aim of promoting sustainable development and increasing the resilience of populations.

Mr. José Graziano Da Silva, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), presented the 2016 Annual Report on "The State of Food and Agriculture" which evaluates the current and future effects of climate change on agriculture and food security.  This report also addresses policies to transform agricultural and food systems to make them more sustainable, as well as means of responding effectively to climate change (by supporting the adaptation of small farms, providing access to technology, markets and loans for investment.)

The Committee adopted all the resolutions on the polices proposed in the 2016 Report of the High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) on "Sustainable Agricultural Development for Food Security and Nutrition, Including the Role of Livestock," which makes scientific contributions to these issues, as well as the 5th version of the Global Strategic Framework for Food Security and Nutrition (including the contribution of water and directives for prolonged crises).

The CSA remains committed to nutrition, as part of the Decade of Action on Nutrition proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2016, and is involved in both the implementation of recommendations by the 2nd International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2, 2014), and those of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.  This Committee was given the official mandate of the United Nations to contribute to the MDGs and to the 2017 global examination of the 2030 Agenda established by the High Level Political Forum on the theme of "Eliminating Poverty and Promoting Prosperity in a Changing World."
