H.E. Ms. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Principality to the United Nations Office in Geneva and Ms. Chrystel Chanteloube, Third Secretary, took part in the 6th Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, held by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from 12 to 15 June.

At the opening ceremony, a video message from H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince was shown, in which He recalled that environmental pollution causes the death of 13 million people every year, of which more than a million are children.

With this scientifically proven fact in mind, the European region, which has been a pioneer in this field for more than 25 years, must continue and intensify its efforts.

The Conference in Ostrava concluded with the adoption of a declaration.  The aim of this declaration is to strengthen synergies at the national level in order to accelerate efforts to reduce sources of pollution and improve health, in particular by increasing collaboration at the international level, especially in the European region.

The ministerial conferences of the European Environment and Health process are a unique platform for inter-sectoral policy.  This platform makes it possible to bring together the relevant sectors and partners so as to develop environmental and health policies and measures and thus advance the work undertaken in these areas in the WHO's European Region.
