by Alain Resnais (1963)
Screenplay and dialogues Jean Cayrol, With: Delphine Seyrig: (Hélène Aughain), Jean-Pierre Kérien (Alphonse Noyard), Nita Klein (Françoise) and Jean-Baptiste Thierrée (Bernard Aughain),
Forty-year-old widow Hélène Aughain lives in Boulogne-sur-Mer with Bernard, her son-in-law, who has returned from the Algerian war. Their apartment is transformed into a repository for old furniture, in which she deals. Feeling that her existence has become too mundane, Hélène suddenly has the idea of seeing the love of her youth, Alphonse, again. She writes to him. He nonchalantly accepts the idea of this meeting and comes to live with her, in the company of Françoise, his mistress, a young actress, whom he presents as his niece.
