The exhibition "Une rencontre" (An Encounter"), organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs and designed by Lidia Carrion, is an opportunity for the public to see more than 200 works by Jean and Danièle Lorenzi-Scotto, two people who made their mark on Monegasque cultural life in the second part of the 20th century.

Jean-Eugène Lorenzi was born in 1916 and died in 1989.  He practiced as a lawyer in the Principality for more than 40 years;  he was also elected to the National Council (Parliament) and was a member of the Crown Council.  His passion for drawing led him to use a variety of different materials, such as pencil, pastels and charcoal, but his favourite was undoubtedly ink, because it enabled him to best express his inspiration.  Towards the end of his life, the artist experimented with engraving on materials as varied as copper, zinc, linoleum and above all, Plexiglas.

Danièle Lorenzi-Scotto, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, Florence, lived in Paris for a few years before returning to the Principality and meeting her future husband, Jean-Eugène Lorenzi.  Her early paining style, which, according to Mr. Jacquemain-Hilaire, resembled the "explosive form of Fauvism," moved towards pure lines and the effects of light after the death of her husband.  At just 25 years of age, Danièle Lorenzi-Scotto was appointed Director of Monaco's Municipal School of Decorative Arts, where she taught for more than 20 years.

This exhibition is a hymn to love and the arts, cornerstones of the life of these two artists.
