Monaco Renews its Fleet of Ten Electric smart Cars
As part of an agreement signed in December 2009 between Monaco, Smart and Daimler AG on developing zero emission mobility, the Principality of Monaco renewed its fleet of electric Smart cars today.
Frédéric Grandvoinnet, Major Accounts Sales Director at Mercedes-Benz France, officially handed over the keys of a fleet of ten Smart Fortwo Electric Drive cars to Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, in the presence of H.E. Mr. Bernard Fautrier, Minister Plenipotentiary Official Representative of the Minister of State.
The ten cars are for the exclusive use of State departments and concessionary companies of Monaco’s public services, already very committed to zero emission mobility.
The ceremony took place in the run up to the EVER ecologic fair which will take place from 27 to 30 March 2013, organised by MC2D and Miti, of which Smart is a partner.
H.E. Mr. Bernard Fautrier pointed out: "For several years, the Principality has been encouraging the use of ecological vehicles. This partnership is an integral part of the policy initiated by H.S.H. Prince Albert II in favour of a sustainable city and soft mobility. This fleet of ten Smart cars, which has been renewed today, is a good example of the Prince's Government effort to promote electric vehicles."
This partnership owes its success to close collaboration and regular information exchange on the use and perception of these vehicles between Smart, at the headquarters of Mercedes-Benz France; the local distributor, SAMGF; and the people who use the ten electrically-powered Smart cars in the Principality.
Since their arrival in Monaco, these ten vehicles have clocked up a total of 135,780 km, to the satisfaction of their users.
Mrs. Marie Pierre Gramaglia recalled that "The Prince's Government encourages the purchase of electric vehicles by offering a subsidy of 30% of the purchase price, including all taxes, up to a maximum of 9,000 euros. The limit for two-wheeled vehicles is 3,000 euros. Today, almost 660 totally electric or hybrid two- and four-wheeled vehicles are being used in Monaco by companies, administrative departments and private individuals."
The Principality of Monaco places great importance on the use of electric cars in its territory.
More than 430 recharging points are available for owners and users of electric vehicles in several car parks in the Principality.
Moreover, electric vehicles with the specific VE registration have access to free on-street parking in Monaco.
VE vehicles also benefit from a free annual car tax sticker. Finally, a partnership between Nice Côte d’Azur and Monaco offers reciprocal recharging and outside parking for electric vehicles.
The partnership with Daimler AG that has been renewed this year is perfectly in line with the Principality's commitment to zero emission mobility.
