Department of Electronic Communications

Role

This Department has the remit of:

  • Planning, allocating and managing all resources in the Principality of Monaco relating to the electronic communications sector (frequencies, dialing, the .mc domain, satellite locations, road networks, etc.)
  • Authorising and monitoring operators' activities in the Principality of Monaco and generally dealing with all applications from public or private operators and consumers or their associations relating to the electronic communications sector
  • Performing the inspections and applying the sanctions incumbent upon the State as regards the implementation of contracts and specifications for concessions
  • Defining the rules for and any limitations concerning the use of electronic communications networks and services pursuant to laws and regulations, and in respect of environmental and public health issues
  • Having electronic communications equipment certified and providing consultancy and proposals on urban planning and national security issues
  • Promoting the development of the electronic communications sector in the Principality of Monaco, particularly by supporting the international development of existing stakeholders, by facilitating the relocation of new operators in deregulated fields, by taking the initiative and by overseeing the development of specific innovation programmes
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with foreign administrations and Organisations in the electronic communications sector, as well as with public and private foreign operators
  • Providing consultancy and proposals on legislation and regulations, at national and international levels, in the area of electronic communications
  • Setting up a new entity – NIC MONACO – for the registration of first-level Internet domains in the Monegasque naming system. The entity has the task of drafting the domain name charter, and drawing up registration agreements defining the contractual relations of NIC MONACO with domain name registrars
