On Monday 12 March, Ms Valérie Bruell-Melchior, Minister Counsellor at Monaco’s Permanent Representation to the United Nations, took part in the 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations. The theme of the session was “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls”.

Ms Bruell-Melchior highlighted the cooperative activities that had been undertaken by the Prince’s Government in developing countries, particularly in the fields of microloans, health, and education for sustainable development. These activities focus particularly on women and girls living in rural communities.

Moreover, together with Jamaica and the United Nations Population Fund, Monaco co-organised a high-level event called Any Girl Can on 13 March. This provided an opportunity to shine a spotlight on Novlene Williams-Mills, a Jamaican athletics champion, three-time Olympic medal winner and breast cancer survivor, who shared her experience and her message: “find hope within”.

During the event, Ms Natasha Frost-Savio, the founder and President of Pink Ribbon Monaco, emphasised the quality of medical care available in Monaco and the Government’s commitment to raising awareness of breast cancer and providing screening and treatment services.
